Christian Tabernacle Church Affordable Housing & CDC
Churches own a significant amount of real estate in D.C., and many are exploring the possibility of converting their excess property into affordable housing or partnering with developers to incorporate a new church into a mixed-use development. This approach helps address the housing shortage and provides additional benefits to the community.
Our design for Christian Tabernacle Church transformed their vacant lot into an eight-story building with a penthouse, featuring 74 affordable apartments above a roughly 10,300-square-foot childcare center, which will replace the on-site childcare center slated for demolition. The development will also include 25 underground parking spaces, an outdoor play area for children, and retail/pediatric medical space.
